ICT and Computing Subject Lead

Bedminster Down School

ICT and Computer Science

Start: ASAP

Salary: MPR2 – UPR3 + TLR 2A

Location: Bedminster Down School (near Bristol)

Contract: Full time

Term: Permanent

Bedminster Down School is looking for an excellent teacher and leader to join the school on a full-time basis. The school is rated as good by Ofsted and we are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic ICT and Computer Science teacher to take on the role of ICT and Computer Science Subject Lead. The successful candidate will be joining a large Curriculum Team, led by our Curriculum Team Leader for Vocational Education, who will provide the support and challenge required to help you to develop as a leader. You will line manage an experienced and highly skilled ICT and Computer Science teacher and work as a team to support every young person to enjoy ICT and to see the vital importance of the subject in an increasingly digital world. As a classroom practitioner, you will deliver both ICT and Computer Science lessons to KS3 and KS4, across the ability range.

Whilst many schools choose to deliver ICT through other subjects, or to introduce ICT lessons in Year 9, we firmly believe that students should have access to a full IT curriculum from the start of KS3. As a result, all of our students have weekly ICT lessons, from the start of Year 7, taught by ICT and Computer Science specialists. Ensuring that all students experience both vital strands of the subject throughout KS3 means that we run two popular courses at KS4 – GCSE Computer Science and BTEC ICT. We work closely with the other Futura secondary schools to develop our shared curriculum, to share the best resources and to identify the best teaching practice and share this pedagogical knowledge between schools. We have a strong belief in the power of high quality teaching and learning to change the lives of our students and we have developed highly effective lesson structures and pedagogical approaches which drive progress in every lesson.

We operate a ‘Ready to Learn’ behavior system in the school and classroom behavior is truly exceptional. Our consistent approach to behavior management across the school ensures that any low-level disruption is dealt with rapidly and effectively. Our senior and pastoral teams manage the rare incidents of highly challenging behavior and permanently staff the behavior support rooms. This means that, as a teacher at Bedminster Down School, you have the ability to spend your work time on planning and delivering lessons which will maximize engagement and progress, as well as providing high quality feedback to your students.

In return we offer:

  • A competitive salary
  • A full and varied CPD programme offering teaching and leadership development for our staff
  • An opportunity to work in a supportive team from whom you can learn, develop and grow
  • Wider opportunities to be involved across the Futura Learning Partnership
  • An energised and professional working environment
  • Benefits include; pension scheme, discounted sports centre/gym membership, free wellbeing support & medical cover, free on-site parking and cycle to work scheme.

Futura Learning Partnership is a partnership of schools which span the Bristol - Keynsham - Bath area that are working together to provide a high-quality educational experience for all students in their care and be a truly inclusive provider of 4-19 education in the area.

The closing date for applications is: 23:59 on 04/02/2023.

Interviews will take place in the week beginning 6th February depending on candidate availability.
